چکیده

Parallel computing is a promising approach to alleviate the computational demand in conducting largescale finite element analyses. This paper presents a numerical modeling approach for earthquake ground response and liquefaction using the parallel nonlinear finite element program, ParCYCLIC, which is designed for distributed-memory message-passing parallel computer systems. In ParCYCLIC, finite elements are employed within an incremental plasticity, coupled solid-fluid formulation framework. A constitutive model calibrated by physical tests represents the salient characteristics of sand liquefaction and associated accumulation of shear deformations. Key elements of the computational strategy employed in ParCYCLIC include the development of a parallel sparse direct solver, the deployment of an automatic domain decomposer, and the use of the Multilevel Nested Dissection algorithm for the ordering of finite element nodes. Simulation results of centrifuge test models using ParCYCLIC are presented. Performance results from grid models and geotechnical simulations show that ParCYCLIC is efficiently scalable to a large number of processors.

TOPOLOGY OPTIMIZATION OF 2D BUILDING FRAMES UNDER ARTIFICIAL EARTHQUAKE GROUND MOTIONS USING POLYGONAL FINITE ELEMENT METHOD

In this article, topology optimization of two-dimensional (2D) building frames subjected to seismic loading is performed using the polygonal finite element method. Artificial ground motion accelerograms compatible with the design response spectrum of ASCE 7-16 are generated for the response history dynamic analysis needed in the optimization. The mean compliance of structure is minimized as a t...

Numeric Simulation of Moment of Stabilizing Pile under the Local Liquefaction Based on Finite Element Method

The evaluation of liquefaction effect on the dynamic moment of stabilizing piles is potentially significant. Based on the dynamic centrifuge modeling of a slope reinforced with a row of copper model pile, this paper not only analyzed the response of dynamic pore pressure, earthquake deformation and macroscopic phenomenon measured in the response of the reinforced slope, but also simulated the r...

Numerical modelling of multi-directional earthquake loading and its effect on sand liquefaction

Earthquakes generate multi-directional ground motions, two components in the horizontal direction and one in the vertical. Nevertheless, the effect of vertical motion on site response analysis has not been the object of extensive research. The 2010/2011 Canterbury sequence of seismic events in New Zealand is a prime example among other earlier field observations strongly corroborating that the ...
